The Dance At The River Running

from alt.callahans reel by Tim Fatchen

/

about

This neoceltic/druidical 4/4 round dance is mapped out on duo-pianos, with the melody taken (and twisted, and mirrored, and reversed) from the original piano recording. Added contrabass section, a solo cello, a cor anglais in lieu of a soprano and a mad Russian choir who can't quite keep time, so they're stationed on the edge of the dance ground.

The motif is simple and the structure is very simple, mainly two chords, tonic and (modal) 7th. It's just a simple progression or shift that you hear again and again and again in folk music, especially round dances, and I never tire of it. Others might!
